I See Red States
The liberal bubbles Seattle, San Francisco, New York and other coastal metropolises live under have burst. Supposedly young voters turned out in record numbers and voted: * In favor of re-bombing various piles of rubble in Iraq, * Further stirring the hornet's nest of fundamental Islam, * Against gay marriages, * Collectively taking a step back to 1950's-style fear and paranoia, * And a possible new draft so they can go kill Aye-rabs. Supposedly ... And all this riding on questionable electronic voting equipment (Diebold) designed by companies with definite partisan leanings. I say designed because the equipment was probably built in China or India. What's really interesting to me, is the popular vote. It's the popular vote, stupid. On the New York Times site, there's a nifty mouse-over map. According to their map, California has 100% of voting precincts showing the following: about 5.4 million for Kerry and about 4.4 million for Bush. The only thing that concerns me about this is per the 2000 U.S. Census there are 32.5 million people in California (legally). The state has a greater population than Canada or Australia. If we say that roughly 10 million people voted (a rowsing turnout?), that means 22.5 million people -- or the equivilent to the entire population of Australia -- didn't vote. I'm trying to picture 22.5 million people who are all grade-school kids, hospital patients or prison inmates ... And how 'bout that electoral college? For the edification of foreigners, go here. Still confused? Yep, it's supposed to befuddle you and it's STILL partly King George's fault. -- Mz M.
